Each player is unique; each instruction must be personalised to be effective

His goal is that his students, adults and children alike, should acquire, in a gentle, relaxed manner, the knowledge needed to develop the game.

Mateo was born in Cadiz in 1979. He showed an interest in sport from a very early age. At the age of five, he attended classes in martial arts and swimming. He continued to try out and to practise other sports, until at the age of 11 he picked up a golf club thanks to his father. A couple of years later, Mateo’s father turned golf professional and started to teach classes at the Club, whilst at the same time managing a municipal practice course. From a young age, Mateo liked to help his father at weekends and on public holidays, seeing to players’ needs as well as helping his father with group lessons.

At the age of 19, he became a monitor and started teaching at Barrosa municipal academy. Mateo realised the importance of having foreign languages, so he travelled abroad, where he combined his studies with work at a golf club on the outskirts of London. A couple of years later, he travelled to Germany, where in addition to attending classes in German, he played in a number of tournaments as part of the EPD Tour. On his return from abroad, he started working at the Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club Academy, and competing on the Spanish circuit for monitors, assistants, and teachers, becoming champion of Spain in the seventh edition and obtaining his professional player’s licence.

After his extensive experience teaching golf to people of all ages, he always seeks to make his advice clear and easy to follow. Mateo believes that the most important to improve one’s golf is to learn to have fun playing, and to learn the basic principles of techniques to be able to carry out a fluid, effective swing.??He loves to travel, and is a nature lover.
He considers himself to be a sports enthusiast; in addition to his passion (golf), he also swims and surfs. He likes hiking and cycling.

He now mainly gives his time to teaching at our Club Academy, and competes in tournaments through the year. He is involved in the junior sector, in addition to teaching individual and group classes for beginners and advanced players alike and with students of various nationalities.
